Position a replacement shingle on the roof.

If the shingles are severely damaged don t try to salvage them.
Then pull out the damaged shingle.
The shingles are missing pieces if a piece of a shingle is missing then the entire shingle will need to be replaced.
Loosen and remove the damaged shingles.
Nail the center row first then the center row of the course above it nailing 1 2 in.
Then take your new shingles and starting at the bottom of.
Loosen the adhesive underneath the tabs of the damaged shingle then pull them free and discard.
Slide the new shingle up into place.

To replace a single shingle first use a chisel and hammer to split it into several narrow pieces then yank them out with pliers.
This can happen if a piece of debris has been blown into your roof thereby causing a piece of shingle to break off.
Then spread the sealant with a putty knife.
Start by applying a thick bead of roofing sealant under the crack.
Press the shingle down and apply a second bead of sealant on top of the crack.
They need to be replaced.
If a shingle is simply cracked or torn you don t have to replace it just repair it.
After removing the center row of nails on the damaged shingle lift the undamaged shingles above it and remove the next row of nails.
Apply some roofing cement to the back side of the shingle.
Cut it to fit with a utility knife if necessary.
The roof probably will not leak now or in a few weeks or a few months but eventually the shingles will deteriorate badly enough that water gets through above the top edge of the underlying shingle and then it can reach the deck and the attic.
The first step to repair shingles is to remove all remnants of the old damaged shingles including pulling or pounding in all the nails.
Align it with the rest of the shingles in that course or row.
